Fulham FC

Fulham 1 Tottenham Hotspur 1 - Football League Division Two

Fulham is a suburban area of west London in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, located 3.7 miles south west of Charing Cross. Fulham nestles in a loop of the Thames across the river from Barnes and Putney. It is on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line of the tube; Fulham's tube stations are Putney Bridge, Parson's Green and Fulham Broadway. Fulham, or in its earliest form Fullanham, is uncertainly stated to signify "the place" either "of fowls" or "of mud" (which probably had a lot to do with the fact that the River Thames would flood it periodically), or alternatively, "land in the crook of a river bend belonging to a man named Fulla".

Stevenage Road Stand
Craven Cottage is a relatively easy venue to reach via the London Underground (Putney Bridge or Hammersmith) or Putney from London Waterloo. On the day it rained heavily and the match must have been in doubt (QPR v West Ham United up the road was postponed a few hours earlier - Ed).

The 'Cottage'
As for the game, Fulham were certainly a match for Spurs on the day. The wet conditions probably helped with this but as often happened that season, the opposition clubs viewed the Spurs fixture as their 'cup final' and were 'up' for the occasion.

Rear of Riverside Stand
Once again, Peter Taylor scored for Spurs and the 24,763 crowd would have enjoyed this entertaining match.
