Ford United FC

Ford United 0 Romford 0 - Essex Senior League

Rush Green is a suburban area of East London, It straddles the boundary of the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham and the London Borough of Havering, and is located 13.5 miles east-northeast of Charing Cross. The central part of the district is at the crossroads of Rush Green Road and Dagenham Road (in Havering), approximately half a mile south of Romford town centre. Several shops and businesses are located around this junction. Other parts extend further south along Dagenham Road into Barking and Dagenham; this neighbourhood is the location of Barking and Dagenham College and Rush Green Library.

Ford United FC dates from a 1958 or 1959 merger between two older clubs, Ford Sports FC (Dagenham) and Brigg Sports FC, both of which were founded in 1934. Brigg Sports played at the Victoria Road ground, now famous as the home of Dagenham & Redbridge. Ford United played at the Ford Sports & Social Club in Rush Green, which was adopted as the home ground for the new team.

This Pieman travelled by train from London Liverpool Street to Romford station and then by bus to the ground. This local derby proved to be very tightly contested with neither side giving much away. The 0-0 result was predictable long before the end.
